Like the Ariel Reaver, it was a permanent enhancement which replaced and encompassed the abilities of all of his other Reavers.Despite being removed, the blade can be activated in game through the use of the, revealing it a had a black core (white in PC versions of the game) enshrouded by red energies. So yeah, Steam shouldn't sell games that don't work when you hit play.First Run the two patches from here in the steam apps Soul Reaver Folder:Then unzip this into the Steam App Soul Reaver folder and run:You shouldn't have to run the program in compatibility mode; set it back to windows 7. I had to mess with the res I did 640 x 480 and it worked, so I didn't mess with it anymore. Drivers were set to intel 3000 software mode and the speakers were set to primary. If it still causes you problems mess with the prompt settings for those three things, but this should work. It shouldn't ask for a dvd, i had a problem where it couldn't find the videos, but the winplay patch fixed that.
Once you get and unzip the official and unofficial patches you do still need to run them as well while they're in the same folder and kain2.exe.(everything you get from those sites should be in that folder steam appr/common/legacy of kain soul reaver). You also need to run the winplay patch before trying to play.Install and run each one in order, take your time, it took me days to get this to work.official patch install extract rununofficial patch install extract runwinplay patch install extract runI recommend uninstall through steam then go to the legacy of kain folder and delete it(it will still be there with all the patches and stuff after the uninstall) delete everything you've done and start over. Thats what I did and in the end it paid of.Also double check the little stuff- run as administrator, don't run in backwards compatability, and check firewall permissions, if the prompt for the drivers shows up try different settings. These things shouldn't matter, but apparently this game is really annoying. Once you've done the patches and all that you should be able to hit play in steam and make the game work.Let me know how it goes.
