You say downloading - to me that means exactly that, just downloading - which doesn't do anything but put it on the hard drive ready for use. What does that mean to you? Does that mean installing the driver? I ran into this issue last week and solved it with a helpful post that the Lexmark E-210 and the Samsung ML-1210 use the same printer driver. Samsung has a Windows 7 driver! What I did was to install the 9MB ML-1210 driver - you don'tneed any of their software so just get the smallest driver file.

(install selecting: without connecting USB cable). That will get the driver on your PC. Then install the Lexmark E220. Change the E-220 port to USB. Then go into drivers and select theSamsung ML-1200 series.

Last, change the name of the E-220 to E-210. Works perfectly via USB. You can also safely delete the samsung printer from the device list.
