On launching Microsoft Web developer 2010 Express, a message indicated that some of the components needed to be upgraded and suggested I launch SP1 with-VS10sp1-KB983509.exe. I have run this and saved it and ran it and the Visual Studio logo shows but after 10-30 sec, a message indicates that another install is running currently.
Please wait for the other install to finish before running thisinstall. And I have to say OK. SP1 is not installed. Please help, I am running Windows 7 (64-bit) with all other 2010 express applications installed, this would be the last one.
Hi FcZZ,Thank you for your reply.Could you please let me know whether the Web Developer Kit you mentioned is Visual Web Developer 2010?I recommend you uninstall all the Visual Studio 2010 in your machine via. Please run this tool as the complete mode:Complete ( VS2010Uninstall-RTM.ENU.exe/full /netfx)Removes entire set of Visual Studio 2010 and supporting products, including Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 and components shared with previous versions of Visual Studio. Note: may break features of previous versions of Visual Studio or other products taking dependencyon Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0.Then reinstall Visual Web Developer 2010. After you install it, download the ISO files of Service Pack 1 from the link I provided. Please extract ISOfiles to your local hard disk, and clean up your%temp% folder (To do so: StartRunType “%temp%”). Next run setup.exe under administrator privileges. If you want to install many Express Edition, you are required to reapply Service Pack 1 many times. If you have any other concerns, please feel free to let me know.Best Regards,Alexander Sun MSFTMSDN Community Support Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help. Hi FcZZ,Thank you for your reply. For your concern, first, yes, type “VS2010Uninstall-RTH.ENU.exe /full /netfx” in the Command Prompt (Remember to navigate or enter the correctpath of VS2010Uninstall-RTH.ENU.exe).Second, why I recommend you download All-In-One ISO is that ISO file will avoid some problems during the installation via a web installer.
Moreover, the separate ISO download is not available, so I recommend you download All-In-One ISO.Third, after you click Start, in Windows 7/Vista/Server 2008 you will see a blank displayed “Search programs and files”, and type “%temp%”in this blank and press Enter. In Windows XP, Click StartRunType “%temp%” and press Enter. You can find setup.exe file under the setup files folder. To do so: Right clickRun as administrator. Then, if you download All-In-One ISO, you will find all the Express ISO included in it.
You can install them one by one.Next, to achieve all the Visual Studio Express, you can install them one by one in All-In-One folder. If you want to install a full SQL Server 2008 orR2, you are required to download install them again (if they have been uninstalled already)In addition, you have said “a message indicated that some of the components needed to be upgraded and suggested I launch SP1 with” in yourfirst post. Could you please provide more specific information about this? Is the error message similar as “SP1 hasn't been applied to all components of VS; please reapply SP1”? If you have encountered this error message, it means you should reapplyService Pack 1 because of not only one Visual Studio/Express installed. For your second error message “another install is running currently”, two or more instances of the Msiexec.exe service cannot be launched at the same time for two differentproducts. One install or repair process must finish before the other process can be launched. If you have any other concerns, please feel free to let me know.Best Regards,Alexander Sun MSFTMSDN Community Support Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help.
Hi FcZZ,First,.NET Framework 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 are embedded in Windows 7, so they will not be uninstall. In addition, since these.NET Frameworks are the componentsof OS, you cannot find it in All Program List. You can activate them via Control Panel.
To do so: StartControl PanelPrograms and FeaturesTurn Windows features on or offMicrosoft.NET Framework 3.5.1enable this node andall its sub nodes.Second, the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Tools for SQL Server Compact 4.0 should been installed after you have upgraded to Service Pack 1. For ISOfile, you can use some third party tools (Winzip or WinRAR) to extract it. After you install these tools, right click the ISO fileExtract file. After you extract it, you open it and you will find the setup.exe.Third, the%temp% is the folder for storing temporary files.
In my side, the path of temp folder is “C:UsersAppDataLocalTemp”.If the path you opened is right, then please delete all the files under your temp folder. 'you can find setup.exe file the under the setup file folder”, in fact, the setup folder I mentioned is not the temp folder but the folder storing the Service Pack1 setup files. Thank you for your comment.
Please tell me what I should do. I can go to the link you supplied and download but, first, must I un-install any software?I have downloaded and installed 2010 Basic, C, C#. All are apparently running fine. I had to un-install C to get some components to install for the other software and then re-install C.When I tried to download Web Developer kit, four components did not install:VS 2010 SP1 Core, VS 2010 SP1 Tools for SQL Server 4.0 Installer for Repair, VS 2010 SP1 Tools for Server Compact 4.0 Installer, Virtual Web Developer Express 2010 SP1,but six others did.Do I just directly install what is shown at the link? I realise that I should have loaded Visual Studio 2010 All-In-One ISO (which I think you are suggesting) instead of each individualproduct but I did not see it listed originally. Sun,Thank you for staying with me on this. The VS2010Uninstall complete procedure operated successfully.
You saild that Microsoft NET Framework 4.0 is also uninstalled but I got this back eventually. But what about NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5? How do I get these back and why are thereno traces of Microsoft.NET Framework products in the All Programs List?Getting back to the procedure you outlined. I reinstalled Web Developer from Web Platform 3.0 and still got one uninstalled program Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Tools for SQL Server Compact 4.0 Installer for Repair (English). I manually installed MicrosoftVisual Studio 2010 SP1 Tools for SQL Server Compact 4.0 Installer.I downloaded the iso files for SP1 and All-in-One each as a Run and a Save as: when I ran it as Run I could not find the file, when I ran it as Save As I could not launch the file because it did not understand ISO as a exectutable file.
Howdo you launch an ISO file?Further, the%temp% execution from the Start just opens up Windows Explorer at the C:UsersAppData folder which contains a multitude of.tmp files. You stated that I should launch the setup.exe 'you can find setup.exe file the under thesetup file folder (I cannot find any setup file folder at this path) To do dso right click run as administrator' (Right Click on what?)Why can I not just delete all the.tmp files in that folder or do a disk cleanup and check the delete temperoiary files box? I still do not understand the%temp% / setup.exe operation. Finally, I manually reinstallled each and every express software under the website; Basic, C#, and C, thankfully SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 were still installed. I tried to 're-apply SP1' but the software stopped me several times and rolled meback.I think I have regained most of the software but I am willling to redo the enitire operation again under methods taht are understandable.Thank you for your welcomed assistance.
